Compare 2011 Chevy Volt’s Performance and Price

January 17th, 2011

New 2011 Chevrolet Volt keeps making a buzz amongst car enthusiasts and new car buyers.

The Volt is GM’s first revolutionary plug in electric/gas car. The most outstanding feature of the car is that it has two drive-trains:

  • Battery & Motor. This can drive the car up to forty miles once the battery is fully charged. Using a regular 110 Volt outlet the battery will be charged in about 10 hours, however special 220 V charging station can be purchased and it’ll reduce time to only 4 charging hours.
  • Gas Hybrid System. This operates with a gas engine and a fuel tank, just like any regular car. It can drive up to 300 more miles.

The combined power between the engine and the electric motors is of 149 HP. Other features include traction control, curtain-side airbags, ABS, front-side airbags and another set of airbags for the passenger’s knees. The customer is also capable of heating or cooling the car before getting in! And you can easily charge your cell phone, Ipod or any regular laptop. You can also buy a car program that will allow you to control several features from you iPhone or Blackberry.

This is a four passenger vehicle, considered a hatchback, it is not spacious but comfortable and it costs about $45.000. Even though the price is very high when comparing new hybrid car prices, it compensates with how much money you can save in gasoline and how much you are contributing to a greener environment.

First production of the Volt has been very limited and only offered in Michigan, Washington D.C, Texas, California and New York. It is expected for GM to build about 15.000 Volts this year and they should be ready to hit the dealerships by late 2011.
